Eliazer Ben Elia Kottenheim [I435]
Born 1615 Frankfurt, Germany, died 22 Oct 1700 (9 Cheshvan 5461) Amsterdam, Holland, age 84 or 85 years Eliazer ben Elia Kottenheim ("Lezer Chazan), from Frankfurt, mentioned in Amsterdams Chazzanoet as cantor from 1639 to 1670; according to Friedmann (Aron Friedmann, Herausgeber, "Lebensbilder beruemter Kantoren - zum 100. Geburtstag des verdienstvollen Oberkantors der Breslauer Synagogengemeinde Moritz Deutsch", Berlin, C. Boas, 1918) he was appointed in 1639 and died in 1700, Friedmann has a transcript of his epitaph which states that he served his community for 61 years (so apparently from 1639 until his death), and which nearly confirms the date of his death as 22 October 1700 The epitaph gives 85 years as his age, so he was born around 1615, and according to EPIT (EPIT = set of translations of genealogically relevant information epitaphs of the Muiderberg cemetery. Available in the Amsterdam City Archives; these epitaphs have been copied in the 19-thirties, in Hebrew, and indexed as archive number 5059-241, the translations were made later, and are kept in a box without a proper archive number ) it adds that Elia (here called Elia Kotnim) was a rabbi.
