Francis grew up in the Bronx and graduated from DeWitt Clinton High
School. He might his wife Sonia Bogin at a YWHA dance in the
summer of 1941 and was drafted in October 1941. They married in
1942. Francis served as a medic in the glider corps of WWII. He
was a teacher in New Mexico, received his doctorate from the
University of Chicago, and became a principal in Florida. He is a
stamp collector and president of the Hollywood stamp club. He is
on the board of directors of the local public health clinic.
