 Josef "Joseph Israel Pereira (Antonio Lopes)" Abendana [I1136]Born ± 1580 Josef Pereira was a member of the Neve Shalom community, of which he was the parnas in 1624 and 1625. In addition he had been a member of the Dotarsinceitsfoundationin 1615 and in 1622 he was its administrator. In 1623 he discovered that hi s Jewish surname was Abendana, and from then on hecalledhimselfJosef Abendana.He was administrator of Bet Haim and secretary of the Impost Board. He traded mainly with Levant and Portugal. Aroundthe year1620he went to Veniceto attend perso nally to his affairs there. It would appear that he had his own ships: according to a deed in 1628he had asharein the ship "H. Miguel"{Mun. Arch. Amsterdam Not. Arch. 636 fol. 151}. The exact date of his death is not known, but must have been between1642 and1667. Found in "Studia Rosenthaliana" DS 135 N4S7 Volume 19 pages 112-113 where it mentions the change in name. The witness at his marriage registrationwasPhillipHenriquez.His marriage registration is listed twice, once under Antoni Lopes Pereira th e other under the name Joseph Abendana.
Married 1611 Amsterdam, Holland, age approximately 31 years to:  Maria "Juda Abeniacar" Pimentel [I1123], daughter of Garcia "Mordechai Abeniacar" Pimentel and Sara Lido "Sara Abeniacar & Leonora Gutteres" Lindez.Also known as Judica Abeniacar. Her intention to marry is listed twice, once under the name Maria Pimentel the other under the name Judico Abendana.Thewitnesswasgiven as Francisco Casseress without mentioning the relationship. ("Studia Rosenth aliana" DS 135 N4S7 Volume 12, Page 173). Children: 1.
